First installation First time installation is done from the CD and is made user friendly as the major part of the installation is done automatically. The full
application should be installed on each station in a network environment. This is done to reduce the network trafic on the network. The data files must be stored on a server where all users have
access. Create a directory on the server prior to running the program for the first time. Make sure that all users have full access to this directory and all files that will be created in the directory. You
can then select this directory when the program is executed for the first time. The program will create all the required files in this directory and will referr to this directory as the "DATA"
directory. An /EMPTY subdirectory will be created where a set of empty files are stored for fututre repair or upgrading of the data files. Make sure that this "DATA" directory is included for regular backup
to avoid data loss. The application will be installed on each station, preferably in the C:\PROFFF directory. This directory will be referred to as the "CODE" directory in the program. A subdirector /HELP
will be created where all the help files will be stored. These files can be accessed by your default internet browser and can be opened interactively from within the program. You will be asked to enter the first
person into the personell database when the program is run for the first time. It will be assumed that this person will be responsible for the maintenance and configuration of the system. Full rights
will be assigned to this user for future maintenance. Subsequent installations will have less rights as a default, but can be modified at a later stage. Take some time to
configure the program properly before you continue. Configuration will mainly determine how must control will be available to users and which subsystems will be implemented.
The next step must be to enter some of the support data to make you more familiar with the different aspects of the program and configuration options.
Station installation After the program was installed and configured, the program must be installed on all stations that will have access to the database. Subsequent users will have less rights, but can be
adjusted by the user of the first installation, if Access Control was enabled for this application. Select the common network directory for the data path on each station and make sure that the executable or Code
directory is on the local machine. Upgrade Upgrading is done by running the upgrade executable as distributed. This upgrade also be downloaded
from the web site. All workstations must be upgraded individually. Stations that did not upgrade will not be allowed to run an old executable. |
