1. Capturing the basics
Each data window has a standard set of toolbar icons to assist with movement in the
data records. By hovering the mouse over the icon, a tool tip will display, explaining the function of the menu button. Open the
various windows as described below and add a record if the database is empty for this tutorial. Records can be added from the
toolbar menu, selecting the icon 2nd from the left. When one of the data window are open, the same functions can be selected from the main waterfall menu if preferred by users.
Customer W1000
File | Customer
To assist with reporting, all aircraft are linked to a customer. It is therefore important to create one or more customers in the data
base. Customer information can be entered from the customer window. The entries on this window are self explanatory. Although it
is possible to link aircraft to the customer from this window, we will do this later, when an aircraft has been created. When the "Add"
menu option is selected, users will be prompted to enter the company name. A basic test will be done to avoid duplicate entries of customer company names.
Note that editing of the customer company name is by default not available. This is done to avoid accidental editing of the company name. Select the company button first, which will then allow editing.
Aircraft Make W1800
Maintenance | Aircraft Make
A further grouping category required is to enter the aircraft make. All aircraft registrations will be linked to this classification. This
window is also straight forward and functionality is limited to grouping similar aircraft together. Note that the aircraft make must not be confused with the schedules that we are going to create next.
Schedule name W1300
File | Schedule
The component schedule is the key building component, as it defines the scheduling and definitions of all maintenance tasks. The
components with component specific information, will later be linked to the schedule. In this step, we are only creating the schedule
name and it will later be populated with the information. Schedules will typically be defined as a major component like an airframe,
engine. In the example we are going to use in this tutorial, we would require an airframe schedule: King Air 200 and an engine
schedule: PT6A-40 Series. These schedules are generic definitions for the components, which in this example will be an airframe and an engine.Schedule name W1300
Component W1200
File | Component
Adding the component is the final building block as this is the level where the maintenance status will be recorded and monitored.
Add two components for this example; an airframe serial number: BB614 and an engine serial number:PCE 12345. At this stage all
the detailed values on the component window can be left to the default. Just make sure that the "Active check box is checked and select the applicable schedule for each component from the drop down box.
